We imagined highly stylized characters, reminiscent of traditional stop motion.
Throughout the process, we were careful to produce images very close to the illustrations, to achieve a highly stylized result. In the case of this fish, we had to make it look older, but also funny and a bit moody!
To give the illusion of stop motion, we developed materials that simulate real clay, so that all the elements look as if they have been made by hand.
Surfaces have the feel of a miniaturized scene. Textures are animated to evoke the finger marks left on clay when manipulated.
We had to create a very fun character that could be seen sailing on the water in a variety of boats. Her design was conceived to create a distinctive silhouette that works from both the front and the side.
